DeVilbiss Air Power Company of Jackson, Tenn., in cooperation with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 460,000 air compressors. The air compressors are being recalled because the compressor’s motor can overheat, posing a fire hazard. There have been at least nine reports of motors overheating, including three reports of fire damage to surrounding property.
The air compressors were sold under the Craftsman, Delta Shopmaster, DeVilbiss, Husky and Porter-Cable brand names; nationwide from January 2003 through December 2004 for between $199 and $299. The model number and manufacture date on each unit is located on the unit nameplate on the tank. The model numbers, brands, tank size, orientation and color are shown below:

DeVilbiss Air Power Company recommends that consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled compressors and call DeVilbiss or Sears for a free inspection and repair.
